Description
Evening Primrose Oil is a cold-pressed oil from the seeds of the evening primrose flower. This dietary supplement is high in essential fatty acids, which provide the building blocks for cell membranes and a variety of hormones. It's known to help support comfort associated with PMS and support skin affected by minor irritations. The oil has anti-inflammatory properties.
Benefits
1. Supports hormone balance and PMS comfort: Women have been taking primrose oil to help support hormonal balance for years. Evening Primrose oil may help support comfort during PMS due to its essential fatty acid content. Getting enough omega-6 fatty acids, such as LA and GLA, is shown to support overall hormonal function within the body. During the premenstrual period, some women experience breast tenderness, bloating, water retention, acne, low mood, hot flashes, irritability, foggy thinking and headaches — these symptoms have reportedly eased for some after using evening primrose oil, according to a study in Lipids.
2. Supports fertility in women: Evening primrose oil is sometimes used to help support fertility naturally. It contains GLA, a fatty acid that may help support the quality of cervical mucus, which plays a role in supporting the movement of sperm through the cervix during conception.
3. Hormonal acne support: Hormonal acne is common, especially during puberty when hormones fluctuate, and can affect teens and adults alike. The omega-6 fatty acids present in evening primrose oil may help support balanced hormone levels and may help support skin affected by hormonal acne. These fatty acids also play a role in cell structure, nerve function, and skin elasticity.
4. Nerve comfort: Some research suggests that taking evening primrose oil daily for 6-12 months may help support nerve comfort in people managing diabetes.
5. Bone health: Taking evening primrose oil along with fish oil and calcium may help support bone density in older adults.
Usage
By mouth: For breast tenderness, PMS support, and general purposes — 20 drops daily, any time.
Safety Warnings: Evening primrose oil is likely safe for most people when used for up to a year. It can sometimes cause mild side effects including upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea, and headache.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Taking evening primrose oil is possibly unsafe during pregnancy. It might increase the chance of complications. Don't use it if you are pregnant.
